Producing a more Profitable line from a retail standpoint (ie Department stores)

As a visual merchandiser at a department store, I notice some products (ie tops) don't have products to go with them; therefore, if the customer can't make an entire outfit, they put the item back. As designers, we should give buyers several different options.... Buyers should also consider, how will the customer wear this item? How can a visual team merchandise this product to make it sell? I've worked at two major retail chains and have run into the same problems,,, I would love to hear a sales manager, a buyer, and a visual merchandiser speak on this matter
